Ever since the first chapel was built on the site in 1899, West Side has had at its heart the service of God through the spiritual, emotional and practical support of the local community. A place of comfort and nourishment, we are a loving family who do all we can to support those around us.
West Side has strong links with many other local churches and we like to pray and talk together.
We support the work of the local Salvation Army and regularly arrange collections of food, toiletries and warm knitted items to send to their distribution point in Wandsworth town centre. We also like to support financially their Christmas lunch initiative, where they cook lunch for hundreds of needy people in the Borough.
We very much believe the young of our community are the future and so have set up a number of initiatives to serve those living in and around the borough. Through our highly successful Jigsaw, Youth Group and Westside FC we have created safe environments offering positive experiences through which our children and young adults can grow and flourish.
We are also conscious of the need to bring God’s love and message to all parts of our community, and the positive effect it can have. So as part of our outreach a few of us regularly visit HMP Wandsworth, either as part of the Sycamore Tree course run by Prison Fellowship, or in partnership with St Marks Battersea Rise which has run the Alpha course in Wandsworth prison for many years. We also meet to pray once a month for the prison. For more information please contact us.
Members of the church are actively involved in tackling knife crime in the local area through RTK.
